Emrgy Inc. Awarded $3.6 Million from ARPA-E for Transformational Energy Technology
Emrgy Inc. announced today that it was awarded $3.6 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The funding will be used to develop advanced hydrokinetic turbine, power conversion and system-level control designs for both natural riverine and man-made water infrastructure resources.
“ARPA-E takes pride in funding organizations and technology that can move the needle on clean energy generation at highly cost competitive rates,” said Dr. John R. Tuttle, Emrgy’s Chief Strategy Officer and the Principal Investigator on Emrgy’s SHARKS Project. “Emrgy has the opportunity to transform its already cost-competitive technology platform into a superior, higher performing, lower-cost game-changer for the growing distributed hydropower market sector.”
Emrgy will develop their proprietary hydrokinetic turbines so that they can optimize power generation over a wide range of sites, including varying water flow and depth. The turbines will also be optimized to produce energy with lower flowing water resources. These advances will help customers generate clean, renewable energy for more sites and more challenging installations.
